MINDOUT

SYNOPSIS:

MINDOUT takes a positive approach to the promotion of emotional and social health amongst all young people, viewing mental health as a resource for everyday living and without necessarily referring to mental illness. 

The emphasis is on the wide and varied range of strategies available to young people to cope with stressful or challenging situations from personal coping skills to informal networks of support to professional or voluntary support services.

CONDITIONS FOR SUCCESS:

Training - MINDOUT is aimed at being delivered by Youth Workers, Teachers and others who work on a regular basis with young people and have attended a preparatory ONE DAY training session

The programme is designed for 15 year olds upwards

o   Issues affecting mental health

o   How young people cope

o   Is it the same for boys and girls?

o   Group support

o   Managing emotions: dealing with anger and conflict

o   Positive self talk

o   Managing emotions: dealing with rejection and depression

o   Getting help

The entire programme is interactive - the teacher/youth worker is simply the facilitator
